Argyle, diamond shape, plaid - call it what you will, but this classic pattern is both iconic and fashionable. With its origin in the Argyll region of Scotland, this motif has been the family emblem for the Campbell clan. Starting in the 17th century, Scottish men wore socks and kilts adorned with this design. It’s no wonder golfers (a sport that also comes from Scotland) sports this iconic pattern on their attire. But why should men have all the fun?
When VienneMilano first launched, we designed MAFALDA - an argyle pattern style of stockings fabricated with premium yarn and plush microfiber. Deriving its name from the famous mischievous cartoon character, MAFALDA was made for a woman to reveal her creative and playful side.
Since MAFALDA became a highly sought-after style, we decided to introduce MATILDA which also features a diamond-shaped pattern revealing glimpses of a woman’s leg. Having two similar styles, we decided to give our new creation a similar name. The difference with MATILDA was that it is fabricated with a warm wool-like material, thus creating warmth for our customer.
How do you wear argyle pattern stockings? You may ask. The beauty of this timeless motif is that it’s both edgy and sophisticated at the same time. Both MAFALDA and MATILDA can be paired with an avant-garde look or with classic accessories, and both can be worn for every occasion.
While some may choose to let their legs do the talking by pairing a simple black dress with this heritage pattern, others may take their creative freedom by clashing argyle with another distinct design.
As for shoes, we recommend pairing boots, stilettos, and flats with this fabulous pattern.
